Betty Hovey

Betty A Hovey is a nationally recognized healthcare compliance expert and Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) with over 35 years of experience in medical coding, billing, auditing, documentation integrity, and revenue cycle management.

As the owner of Compliant Health Care Solutions, she provides forensic auditing, compliance consulting, and education to healthcare organizations nationwide. Since May 2025, Betty has also served as an expert witness in medical coding and billing litigation, analyzing over 180 cases involving usual, customary, and reasonable (UCR) charge valuations, medical necessity, coding accuracy, and allegations of abusive or fraudulent billing practices. She has been deposed twice and offers objective testimony supporting both plaintiff and defense matters, including defenses of providers against payer overbilling and recoupment claims.

As an educator and speaker, Betty has presented at major conferences including AHIMA, AAPC, MGMA, and others, and hosts a popular LinkedIn Live broadcast Health Care Happenings. She holds numerous certifications (CPC, CPMA, CDIP, COC, CPC-I, and more), has authored books and articles on coding compliance and healthcare leadership, and previously served as Director of ICD-10 Development and Training for the AAPC.
