Matthew Sarkar is a highly credentialed expert witness with a unique blend of engineering and product design expertise. His educational background includes a Master's degree in Industrial Design from the prestigious Royal College of Art, a First-Class Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College London, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Brunel University. He was elected Senior Associate of the Royal Society of Medicine in 2018.
With over two decades of experience spanning development, licensing, intellectual property, and partnering, Mr. Sarkar has held key leadership roles at renowned organizations such as The Catapult Network, Science Group, McLaren Applied and Vectura Group. His extensive work history encompasses a wide range of industries, including inhalation devices, digital therapeutics, wearable technology, digital medicine and general medical device development.
Notably, Mr. Sarkar has been instrumental in securing numerous high-profile partnerships, licensing deals, and intellectual property portfolios. He played a pivotal role in the development and commercialization of patented technologies, such as the the GyroHaler™ inhalation device, licensed to Sandoz in 2006 and MotionSense™ wearable technology for post-operative remote patient monitoring, which was acquired by Stryker in 2020. Mr Sarkar has successfully managed complex medical device projects from initial design through clinical trials, including the Aspirair® active aerosolization technology platform. He most recently advised a global branded pharmaceutical company on litigation to enforce their patent portfolio in defence of marketed products in the US.
With a proven track record of innovation management, intellectual property strategy, and product development processes, Mr. Sarkar has been granted multiple US and European patents, further solidifying his expertise in the field.
