About
Elizabeth Turner's clinical expertise is extensive, spanning over a decade of work in renowned medical facilities. Currently, she serves as a Level IV Clinician and Speech-Language Pathologist at the University of Virginia Medical Center, a Level I Trauma Center. In this role, she specializes in critical care dysphagia management, tracheostomy and ventilator patient care, and has completed advanced training in Modified Barium Swallow Impairment (MBSImp) and Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES). Her contributions include developing guidelines for dysphagia management following intubation and lung transplant, as well acting as a subject area expect for trach patient. She completes language and cognitive-lingusitic evalutations following traumatic brain injury, stroke, brain surgery or large ENT surgery. She has worked with patients from a variety of settings, including skilled nursing facility, nursing homes, and hospice. She is passionate about end of life care.
Turner's expertise has been recognized through various professional engagements, including a publication in the American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology on postextubation dysphagia in COVID-19 patients, and a poster presentation at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) conference on the impact of a multidisciplinary tracheostomy team protocol. She has also presented at the Speech-Language Hearing Association of Virginia and the Tennessee Hospital Association Leadership Summit, further solidifying her reputation as a knowledgeable and respected expert in her field.
