$18.7 Million Verdict Secured for Pedestrian Injured by Drunk Driver in Texas

In a powerful statement on accountability and justice, a Tarrant County jury awarded $18.7 million to Bryan Williams, a 22-year-old pedestrian who suffered life-altering injuries after being hit by a drunk driver. The verdict was handed down in the 96th District Court before Judge Patrick Gallagher on March 29, 2025.

The case was led by attorneys Jibraeel Zaidi and Rabia Said of Witherite Law Group, who presented a meticulously crafted case against a 19-year-old intoxicated driver who struck Bryan as he walked home from an evening out in Fort Worth.

The Crash and Cover-Up

On the night of the incident, the defendant lost control of his pickup truck after leaving Whiskey Garden, a popular local bar. He plowed into Bryan and then crashed into a light pole. Rather than call for help, he attempted to cover up the event—misleading police about his whereabouts and alcohol consumption. His blood alcohol content was later confirmed to be 0.15, nearly twice the legal limit.

Despite the clear evidence—including eyewitnesses and bodycam footage—the defendant denied hitting Bryan. His legal team tried to shift some responsibility, arguing Bryan bore fault for walking in a dimly lit area while wearing AirPods. The jury ultimately attributed just 10% of the blame to Bryan, squarely placing the majority of liability on the defendant.

Strategic Trial Execution

Zaidi and Said built a compelling case centered on Bryan’s humanity and the extent of his suffering. Their approach included:

  • Medical animations showing the severity of Bryan’s injuries

  • On-site documentation and family interviews highlighting the daily challenges he now faces

  • Expert testimony from Nurse Leigh Anne Levy on Bryan’s long-term care needs

  • Police bodycam footage demonstrating the defendant’s attempted deception

Despite Bryan’s catastrophic injuries, State Farm, the defendant’s insurer, initially offered just $70,000 on a $50,000 policy. The jury responded emphatically with a breakdown that included:

  • $1.25 million for medical expenses

  • $10.5 million for pain and suffering

  • $4.35 million for impairment and disfigurement

  • $2.5 million for mental anguish

  • $105,622 in punitive damages

Delivering Justice

A standout moment in the courtroom came during voir dire and closing arguments by Zaidi, whose clear, passionate delivery resonated with jurors. His ability to connect personally with the panel helped reinforce the truth behind the evidence.

Despite efforts by the defense to cherry-pick records and mislead the jury, the facts and Bryan’s strength spoke louder. The jury recognized not only the gravity of his injuries, but also the defendant’s recklessness and dishonesty.

More Than a Verdict

This case marked a defining win for Witherite Law Group, exemplifying their guiding principles: People First, Expertise Matters, Integrity Always. The team’s deep personal investment in Bryan’s story ensured that he was not seen as just another file, but as a young man whose life was permanently altered—and who deserved justice.

As the firm continues to fight for victims across Texas and beyond, this result is a reminder of what happens when preparation, advocacy, and purpose align. Justice is served.
